A young man who grieves the loss of his father, years after his ship went down. Earwyn holds a grudge against the sea, and vows to forget it.
No matter how far he runs, it won't leave his mind. Finally he finds himself forced to face it and the memories it holds.
Sorcha Fernhan
Earwyn's mother, a widower who is devoted to her son. After her husband's death, she moves to a mining village with her son.
Although her grief leads her to want to protect her son from the fate that took her husband, she also wants him to find his calling.
Cedric
An apprentice in the house of Earwyn's grandfather, he is more than eager to be an ally.
But when questions begin to arise, and danger looms, where will his loyalties lie?
Tavi
A mysterious stranger who rescues Earwyn at great risk to himself. Despite his fierce countenance and the injustices he has faced, he is kind and lighthearted.
A pacifist, he navigates Azmar while hiding from the press gangs that roam the streets..
Mara
Although she and Tavi are siblings, they are as different as can be. Mara dreams of revenge for the injustices they faced, and joins the army in the hopes that she one day face her enemies.
Earwyn is a threat to her plans, and she often finds herself at odds with him.
Captain Plume
A gruff and serious captain who reluctantly helps Earwyn and Tavi.
He loves the sea, but always looks forward going home to his family at the end of his journeys.
Adina Plume
A gentle and kind daughter of a Captain, Adina unintentionally stumbles into Earwyn's life.
